OFFICE K1

At Durban’s bustling Maydon Wharf, the client needed a compact yet impactful head office within the tight confines of their existing fruit terminal.

Faced with a narrow footprint and a flat industrial façade, the architects responded by cantilevering three repurposed shipping containers—cleverly expanding the office width, adding depth to the elevation, and framing sweeping harbour views.

This solution not only maximised space without altering site constraints but also embraced the maritime context through raw, honest materiality. Rapid to construct and thoughtfully integrated, the design transformed a utilitarian structure into a bold architectural statement that reflects the client’s innovative and adaptive spirit.
